Spellito installation instructions

You can install Spellito from a supported browser today, including on iPhone and iPad. It adds an icon for quick access to weekly spelling practice; you do not need to wait for an app-store release.

Spellito is a progressive web app (PWA): a website that supported browsers can add to your device and open like an app. Installation is optional, and availability depends on your browser and device.

Start at spellito.com in your normal browser, not an in-app preview. Ask a grown-up to help on a shared device. Do not disable device security or install an unknown APK to follow this guide.

How do I install Spellito on iPhone or iPad?

Using Safari

Open Safari and visit https://spellito.com. If you arrived through WhatsApp or another app, open the link in Safari first.
Open Share, the square with an upward arrow. In some Safari layouts, tap the Page Menu button first, then Share.
Scroll down and choose Add to Home Screen. If it is missing from Share, look under Edit Actions.
If Open as Web App is shown, switch it on. Keep Spellito as the name, then tap Add.
Return to your Home Screen and tap the Spellito icon to open it.

You do not need the Apple App Store version. Menu placement varies with your iOS or iPadOS version; use a normal tab rather than Private Browsing.

How do I install Spellito on Android?

Using Chrome

Open Chrome and visit https://spellito.com in a normal tab.
Open the three-dot browser menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen, whichever is offered.
If a further Install option appears, select it and follow the browser confirmation.
Open Spellito from its new icon on your Home Screen or in your app list.

Some browsers add a website shortcut instead of a separate app. Both give quick access to Spellito. This browser installation does not require downloading our test APK.

How do I install Spellito on Windows?

Using Microsoft Edge

Open Microsoft Edge and visit https://spellito.com.
Choose the install icon in the address bar if it appears. Otherwise open Settings and more (the three dots), then More tools, Apps and Install this site as an app. Some versions show Apps directly in the menu.
Confirm the name Spellito and select Install.
Open Spellito from Start. If offered, you can also pin it to your taskbar.

Chrome also supports installation: look for its address-bar install icon or its menu option to install the page as an app. You do not need to wait for a Microsoft Store listing.

How do I install Spellito on a Mac?

Using Chrome or Microsoft Edge

Open Chrome or Microsoft Edge on your Mac and visit https://spellito.com.
Choose the address-bar install icon or the browser menu's option to install the page as an app.
Confirm Install, then open Spellito from the shortcut or app entry created by your browser.

These steps use Chrome or Edge. Safari's options differ by macOS version. If your browser does not offer installation, you can still use Spellito in an ordinary browser tab.

Why can't I see an install option?

Open the site directly in Safari, Chrome or Edge, rather than inside WhatsApp, Facebook or an email preview.
Use a normal tab, let the page finish loading and check your browser menu. The option may be absent if Spellito is already installed.
A school-managed device may block installation. Ask the school's IT administrator; do not bypass its restrictions.
Browser versions and operating systems have different menus. If installation is unavailable, bookmark the site and keep practising in your browser.

Still stuck? Contact Spellito support with your device and browser name. Do not send passwords or children's personal information.

After installation: start practising

Open the Spellito icon, choose a year group and start basic ten-word practice. For saved family features, sign in with your existing grown-up account. Parents can add school spellings with a Family Pass; teachers can assign lists with a Class Licence.

Installation questions

Is installing Spellito free?

Adding the web app is free. Basic ten-word spelling practice is free without an account or child name. A paid Family Pass adds home word lists and family features; a Class Licence adds teacher assignments and private class progress. Installing does not unlock paid features.

Is this the same as downloading Spellito from an app store?

No. These instructions install the existing web app directly through your browser. The planned Google Play, Apple App Store and Windows store releases are separate ways to find and install Spellito.

Will my account and child's progress appear automatically?

You may need to sign in again with the same grown-up account, especially when moving to a Home Screen app or a different browser. Saved account data and access are tied to that account. Guest or other on-device data may not transfer. Do not create a second account just because the app asks you to sign in.

Does installing mean Spellito works fully offline?

No. Keep an internet connection for the full experience, including sign-in, new word lists, uncached audio and syncing. Installation alone does not download every spelling or guarantee offline practice.

Can my child write the spellings on paper?

Yes. Alongside typing and letter tiles, fixed word lists offer Write on paper. Spellito reads each word aloud with time to write, then shows the answers for self-checking. It does not photograph or automatically mark handwriting, and paper practice does not save a score to family or class progress.

Does removing the app delete my account?

Removing the icon or uninstalling the web app does not delete your Spellito account. Deleting browser or app data may remove on-device progress. Use the account controls in Spellito for account or child-profile deletion, or contact support for help.
