Plain-English rules
Terms of use
Spellito has free, ad-free ten-word child practice. Optional adult accounts connect families and classes; Family Pass and Class Licence add separate paid features.

đź‘‹ The rules, short version
We made Spellito to help you with your spelling. Here’s how it works:
- Free practice stays. You can complete a ten-word practice session without an account. A grown-up can choose paid extras, but you can still practise without them.
- Be kind to it. Use Spellito to practise spelling. Don’t try to break it or trick it on purpose.
- Ask a grown-up if anything looks wrong or if a word is being silly.
- We’re trying our best but we’re a small team. Sometimes Spellito might be slow or have a wobble. Sorry in advance!
For parents and carers — the detail
These terms apply when you or a child you supervise uses Spellito. They’re short on purpose: free practice is ad-free, while optional adult-owned accounts can add separate family or teacher features.
Who we are
Spellito is operated by Wacky Works Digital, a UK-based digital studio. Contact: hello@spellito.com (general) or privacy@spellito.com (data/privacy).
Who Spellito is for
Spellito is designed for UK primary-school children in Reception to Year 6 (ages 4–11), used under the supervision of a parent, carer or teacher. It’s a Progressive Web App — you run it in your browser; there’s no native app. Family and teacher sign-up is optional and belongs to the adult, never the child.
Optional adult accounts
A parent or carer may create child profiles only for children they are responsible for or have permission to support. A teacher must use a professional identity and claim only a school and classes they are authorised to work with. Keep your sign-in secure, do not share class invitations publicly, and tell us promptly if you think an account or invitation has been misused. You can delete family or teacher account data through the account controls described in our Privacy Notice.
What it costs
Unlimited basic ten-word practice stays available without entering a child’s name or creating an account. A free parent account can connect one child profile, and a free teacher account can create one class identity, share invitations, confirm parent requests and see the minimum roster.
Family Pass costs ÂŁ9 per family per year. Where activation-code checkout is available, one deliberate payment buys an eight-character activation code emailed to the purchase address. No Spellito account is needed before payment for this code purchase. The code gives the intended family 12 months from first redemption for up to five child profiles, adding buddies, hints, private progress, home spelling lists, released SATs practice and cross-device sync.
A code can be redeemed once on a verified adult account with parent consent, including on another device. The purchase email can differ from that adult’s sign-in email. Unused activation codes have no expiry date. Keep the code private: it is not a sign-in code, and once redeemed it belongs to that family account. Re-entering it on the same account does not restart the term; an already active Family Pass prevents another code from being consumed.
The account-first Family checkout remains available during this rollout. It requires a verified adult sign-in before payment and starts the 12-month term from payment. The checkout you use explains which purchase you are making; existing purchases keep their original dates.
Class Licence costs ÂŁ59 per class per year. One deliberate payment gives one exact class of up to 30 confirmed pupils 12 months of weekly spelling sets, private pupil progress and class rankings. Class Licence checkout remains account-first, with its term starting from payment; Family activation codes cannot activate a Class Licence. An individually agreed class allowance can replace the standard 30-pupil limit when Wacky Works Digital records it for that exact class. Get in touch about a larger class.
Family Pass and Class Licence unlock different benefits; buying one never requires buying the other. Neither purchase renews automatically. Stripe charges nothing again unless an adult deliberately makes another purchase. A family can activate another code only after its current 12-month term has ended.
Spellito School costs £1 per pupil per year, with a £99 annual minimum. It covers every verified class and teacher at one school and is paid in one annual transaction or invoice by an authorised head teacher, school business manager or other school buyer. The school’s written order or invoice terms also apply.
A purchase completes only after Stripe confirms the payment. Opening Checkout or returning from it does not by itself unlock any paid feature.
Cancellation and refunds
Wacky Works Digital offers a full refund if you contact us within 14 days of a Family Pass or Class Licence purchase. For a Family activation code, the refund window of 14 days runs from purchase, not activation. This includes accidental purchases and purchases that have not been used. No reason is required. Email hello@spellito.com to request one.
A refund invalidates an unused activation code. If a code has already been redeemed, its refund revokes only the Family Pass supplied by that purchase. If Family Pass expires or is refunded, its paid family features stop while free ten-word practice remains. If Class Licence expires or is refunded, that class returns to free linking and its minimum roster; weekly spelling-set tools, private pupil progress and rankings require an active Class Licence. Account data remains subject to the Privacy Notice and can still be exported or deleted.
Copy this request: Please refund my [Family Pass / Class Licence] purchase. Adult purchase email: [email]. Stripe checkout reference (if available): [reference]. For a Class Licence, class and school: [details].
Nothing in these terms removes your statutory consumer rights.
Acceptable use
By using Spellito, you agree to:
- Use the service for its intended purpose — spelling practice for primary-aged children.
- Supervise the child you’re using it with. Spellito is not a substitute for a parent or teacher.
- Not attempt to disrupt the service, abuse the underlying services (Microsoft Azure, Google Vertex AI, Stripe or Vercel), or use Spellito as a general-purpose AI text or audio generator by submitting non-spelling content as “word lists”.
- Not include personal information (children’s names, addresses, identifiers) when submitting weekly word lists. The Privacy Notice explains why.
- Not use Spellito for anything illegal, harmful, or age-inappropriate.
Content and ownership
Spellito’s curriculum (the seeded word lists, the sentence templates, the teacher-voice MP3s pre-generated for curriculum words, the user interface, the codebase) is owned by Wacky Works Digital and licensed for personal, non-commercial use as part of the service.
When a parent submits a weekly word list, or a teacher creates a class spelling set, the words and any edited sentences remain theirs or their school’s. By submitting them, the responsible adult grants Wacky Works Digital a non-exclusive licence to process them through our service providers (notably Google, for sentence generation and voice synthesis) solely to provide Spellito. We don’t resell, republish or use submitted lists for marketing.
Requests that need new sentence or voice generation share a limit of 100 provider operations per signed-in adult per UK calendar day. Cached recordings do not use a new provider operation. A failed provider request remains counted so repeated retries cannot bypass the allowance.
Service availability
Spellito is operated on a best-effort basis. We don’t commit to any uptime SLA. The service depends on third-party providers: Vercel for the public website and edge gateway, Microsoft Azure for the authenticated application, database, audio storage and sentence generation, Google Vertex AI for approved voices, and Stripe for adult payments. Outages or quota limits at any of them may affect Spellito. We aim to keep it available and to provide it with reasonable care and skill, but temporary interruptions can happen.
Changes to the service
We may add, change, or retire features over time. We try not to remove anything that’s being actively used by families. If a change materially affects how you use Spellito we’ll give a clear notice. Changes do not remove your statutory rights.
No warranty
Spellito is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. While we’ve worked hard to align the practice content with the real DfE KS1/KS2 SATs spelling style and mark schemes, we don’t guarantee that using Spellito will produce any particular educational outcome, nor that the generated sentences will always be perfectly age-pitched. Spellito is a supplement to, not a replacement for, the teaching the child receives at school.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Wacky Works Digital is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of Spellito. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under English law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising in connection with them is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we’ll update the “last updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes we’ll surface a notice on the home page until you’ve seen it.
