A two-page calm spelling review

This is Spellito's optional, non-exhaustive sample from the shared Years 3 and 4 list. It is not a statutory Year 4 subset, national test or diagnosis. There is no pass/fail threshold or judgement that a child is behind. Use it to choose a few words to revisit, following your school's current learning.

Use your browser's Print or Save as PDF command. The pack is designed for two A4 pages; browser settings may change pagination, so check the preview. Give only the first page to the child and keep the adult key out of sight. No name field is needed. Write only on paper.

Give the child page 1 and keep the adult key on page 2 out of sight. Read the word, its sentence, then the word again. Work at the child's pace, pause when helpful and review spellings together afterwards. Practise a small set over time and discuss persistent difficulty with the teacher. Write on paper; this page collects no answers or observations.

Choose a few words to revisit

Notice a spelling together, cover it, try it from memory and check kindly. Return to a small set after a gap. If difficulty persists, talk with the teacher about support that fits your child's learning.

Explore the Year 3 starter resource and the shared Years 5 and 6 list. For current homework, use the weekly spelling homework template and help with learning spellings at home.

Year 4 spelling questions

Is there a separate statutory Year 4 spelling list?

England's national curriculum gives Years 3 and 4 one shared statutory spelling list. Year 4 continues and revisits that shared learning before Years 5 and 6. Schools choose the sequence across the two years; the appendix does not allocate a separate Year 4 subset.
