From score to teaching
What should a spelling test tell a teacher?
A weekly spelling check is most useful when it reveals a specific next action. Several errors sharing the same sound-letter correspondence may point back to that taught correspondence. Errors in prefixes, suffixes or roots may justify more work on morphology, which means the meaningful parts inside a word.
Ofsted's Research review series: English says assessment should identify the words or parts of words pupils find difficult. It also describes low-stakes pre-tests and practice tests as possible recall practice after pupils have studied the words. That is a narrower and more useful claim than treating a weekly total as a permanent attainment label.
The National curriculum in England: English programmes of study combines phonics with spelling patterns, morphology and etymology. Its Years 3–4 and Years 5–6 statutory lists are important, but they are not a direction to test 100 disconnected words in one sitting.

Yes. You can create and print the sheet without an account or payment. Basic ten-word child practice is also free without entering a child's name.
Does Spellito save the words I paste?
No. The generator holds the list only in the current browser page. It does not upload the words, save them to an account or send them to a pupil.
How many spelling words can I add?
You can add up to 30 distinct words. For an ordinary weekly check, a shorter taught list is usually easier to interpret than a large mixed list.
Does a weekly spelling score prove that a pupil has learned the words?
No. A score is one low-stakes retrieval check. Recheck difficult words later and look for the spelling in normal writing before treating it as secure learning.
Can I use statutory Years 3 and 4 or Years 5 and 6 words?
Yes, but select words that fit the content being taught rather than testing all 100 statutory entries at once. The national curriculum lists sit alongside phonics, spelling patterns, morphology and etymology.
Can I send the list electronically instead of printing it?

Is this a diagnostic spelling assessment?
