Szabolcs Deák
Founder of Spellito · CTO, Wacky Works Digital
Szabolcs (Saby) Deák is the founder of Spellito and CTO of Wacky Works Digital, the UK studio that makes it. He started Spellito for his son Isaac's Year 6 SATs spelling practice, and his younger son Hugo now uses it in Reception.
What Saby builds
Curriculum word lists
He turns the statutory word lists in the national curriculum for England into short ten-word practice for Reception to Year 6, including released SATs spelling papers.
Children's privacy
He designs how Spellito keeps children's data to a minimum under the ICO Children's Code: free practice needs no name or account, and grown-ups own every child profile.
AI, used carefully
He builds the AI voice audio that reads every word in a sentence. AI tools help with research and building; a person checks every fact, word list and guide before it goes live.
How the guides are written
Saby writes Spellito's guides for parents and teachers from the same sources the app is built on: the national curriculum, Standards and Testing Agency papers and Department for Education guidance. Each guide links those sources and keeps official guidance separate from our own suggestions.
Saby is a parent and software builder, not a qualified teacher. When a teacher has reviewed a guide, the page names them. Teachers can help as testers.
