Spelling practice for British international schools

Following the English National Curriculum overseas? Spellito can help families practise the spellings your class is learning, with teacher-chosen lists and private progress once your school and class are set up.

Keep your school’s teaching sequence

Start with words pupils have been taught and words worth revisiting. Spellito’s year resources refer to England’s English programmes of study and spelling appendix. Your school decides the sequence, phonics approach and appropriate level for each pupil.

Use short practice alongside explanations of sounds, spelling patterns and word meanings. Check whether pupils use those spellings in everyday writing as well as getting them right in practice.

Set up the class and family links first

Create an adult teacher account, choose your school and set up your class. Wait for your school connection to be verified before sharing the private family invitation through your school’s usual approved channel.

Each parent uses their own child profile and requests the class link; the teacher checks and confirms that request. Sending work and viewing private class progress require active class funding. A school selection or payment does not replace teacher verification or parent approval.

Follow the class setup guide.

One checked list for the week

  1. Choose the words. Prepare a named set from current teaching, adapting the list for a pupil or group where needed.
  2. Check the details. Review the spellings, sentences and spoken words before sending anything.
  3. Send to confirmed pupils. Select the intended children and ask a parent to check that the set appears in their child’s account.
  4. Use the progress. Review practice alongside classroom work when deciding which words or patterns need another lesson.

A shared digital list can remove repeated printing, cutting and sticking of individual spelling slips. Once the class is ready, the weekly routine centres on choosing, checking and sending the words. Paper writing and other hands-on practice can remain part of the routine.

Make home practice clear for multilingual families

Explain the task in plain language, with translated school instructions where helpful. Families can discuss a word’s meaning in their strongest language before returning to its English spelling and sentence. Make the school’s chosen British-English spelling clear.

Agree a manageable routine and check access to a suitable device. Offer a paper route where needed. Parents can encourage practice; questions about an unfamiliar spelling pattern can return to the teacher.

Can’t find your school?

Some international schools may not be in our directory. During parent or teacher school selection, choose Enter school details manually. Give the school name, town or city and country, with its public website if known.

This sends a private request for review, not an automatic school addition or pupil connection. Use school details only, with no pupil names. Parents can skip school selection and continue practising while the request is reviewed. You can also contact Spellito support.

Try the workflow before choosing a licence

Basic ten-word practice is free without a child name, account or payment. The weekly-list demo uses fictional pupils and sends nothing to a real class.

The standard Class Licence is £49 for one class for 12 months, normally up to 30 confirmed pupils, with no automatic renewal. Class-funded homework does not require a Family Pass. Schools outside the UK should confirm their school setup and purchasing arrangements with support.

Clear annual pricing

Keep basic practice free. Pay only for the teaching tools you need.

Children can keep using basic ten-word practice without a payment. A teacher can create the free class identity first, then add a class or whole-school licence when the time-saving tools are useful.
